Real and Enjoyable
Kevin Lim

I grew up in the Philippines. My parents raised me as a Christian. Going to Sunday school and meetings with other Christians was very normal. It actually became somewhat “routine”. It was not until college that these things became more real and enjoyable to me. In high school I did not have much contact with Christians. All this changed when I came to UCI.

I applied to four Universities here in the United States: UCLA, Berkley, Davis and Irvine. I was only accepted to Irvine. My dad told me it was probably the Lord’s doing. He had a purpose for me going to UC Irvine.

This turned out to be very true. Arriving in Irvine from the Philippines I knew very few people. I began to meet with Christian Students at UCI. I began to attend their events and barbeques and I also started to pursue the Lord with some of the members of Christian Students at UCI. We read the Bible, sang hymns, and preached the gospel, things I never really pictured myself doing too much in college.

In a sense college has not only become a place for mental growth but a place where I can pursue God, to exercise an organ which I always had but never really used, my spirit. I guess you can say that UCI chose me.
