| Drink the Spirit by Calling on His Name |

I became a Christian at the age of twenty in college. I thank the Lord for bringing me to have fellowship with other Christians while I was a student. By spending time with Christians I learned to drink the Spirit by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Calling on His name is one of many ways to drink the Spirit. When I first contacted my brothers and sisters in Christ I noticed that they sang and called on the Lord’s name loudly in the meetings. Being so loud was strange and unnecessary to me. But I continued to fellowship with my new friends while remaining an observer. I found out that they were happy and genuine, not pretending. But I didn’t know why and how they were happy. I was told that simply by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus you could touch God as the Spirit (Romans 8:15,16). My friends said that the Bible says when anyone calls on His name, he will be in God (1 John 4:15). I just agreed because I was not against the Bible. I didn’t know anything about the Bible anyway. I just nodded my head but I didn’t call. I felt silly calling a name when I couldn’t even see the person. After a while I asked myself, “How can they enjoy a God they have never seen”. I inwardly started to desire the same enjoyment that they had. But still I didn’t want to look like a fool, as they looked to me, by calling in that way, “Oh, Lord Jesus”. I found myself becoming uneasy because I was fighting within my being; should I call or not call? Thank the Lord! He knew what I needed. He knew I was too shy to call in front of so many people. So He gave me the chance to contact Him by calling His name, in a small group setting. I remember four or five of us as a group read a portion of a Bible study book. Then we all prayed concerning the message we had read. I unconsciously opened up my mouth and called on His name and prayed. Afterwards I felt like I was in the heavens. My joy was unspeakable. I felt I was relieved of a big rock which had been hanging on my heart. After that I had a turn. I was no longer just an observer in the meetings but I was in the enjoyment with the other students. I started to enjoy reading the Bible and attending Christian meetings so much so that I began to drop my other interests. I started to realize His name is so powerful. His name saved me from many negative things such as my self and sin. Whenever I turned to Him by calling I sensed that He became so real and close to me. Romans 10:13 says, “For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”. This verse has been my experience all the years of my Christian life.
