| Assurance of Salvation |

I received the Lord as my Savior when I was in fourth grade. But after awhile I started to have doubts about my salvation. I remember praying to the Lord earnestly for the gift of tongues because then I would know for sure that I was saved. I never received the gift of tongues. Although I had experiences of Him, in the back of my mind I still had doubts as to whether or not I was saved. When I came to UCI, I joined Christian Students and met with a few people for a personal Bible study. In this setting I was able to address my fear and receive solid help.
I finally saw that I have the assurance of salvation through three means. First, I am sure I am saved because God’s word says so. Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;” Since the Bible is the very word of God this is a fact and I can stand upon it. The second assurance is the Holy Spirit. Although there were times that I had doubts, I could never say out loud that I did not believe in the Lord. This is because the Holy Spirit witnesses with my spirit that I am a child of God (Romans 8:16). The third means of the assurance of salvation is the sense of love I feel for the fellow believers (1 John 3:14). Anytime I find out that someone is a believer there is joy and love from deep within and also a desire to fellowship and enjoy Christ with that person.
Through the fellowship I had in Christian Students I now have full assurance of my salvation.
